Pyjama adventures with
Schrödinger's cat

Sundays have a bad habit of just creepily hurrying past you without you noticing. We wake up late because of all the fun we have partying and socialising (just kidding, we stay at home and do Star Wars marathons. Yeah yeah, geeks) and before you know it, its night already and all you have is the usual weekday grind to look forward to.

This Sunday was a bit devastating because my afternoon siesta stretched up to the evening. Hence, clocking my total daylight spent awake, to a grand total of 5 hours. That's it? 5 hours of Sunday?! I would have wept if I didn't know the better way of cheering yourself up. Check another place off my zomato bookmarks and hog like there are no Mondays. But we also wanted it to be somewhere socially acceptable to show up in pyjamas. (Cut me some slack, I had just lost a Sunday)

So we decided on the neighborhood cafe that we had yet to explore - Cafe Zoromo. It was in the neighborhood so PJ's ok (Yay!) , it had a rating of 4 on Zomato so food was potentially good and I had been craving pasta like a zombie craves for human brain. So we put on our chappals and shuffled off to find the cafe armed with google maps.

The cafe was pretty easy to find, located right behind Govind Gardens. It was a small yet cosy place, much like a regular bachelor pad. It had an air of casual disarray with shelves of few books and knick knacks, mismatched tables and bean bags. It might as well have been Mr.TKD's apartment.  The upper floor had AC and limited but inviting seating arrangement. When we arrived the floor was choc-a-bloc full of football fanatics vehemently voicing support for their favorite teams as they munched on the cafe offerings, glued to the telly.

We chose to seat ourselves in the ground floor as we were much more interested in hogging than soccer. The menu was limited but promising and we rather seriously deliberated ordering everything. However we didn't, not because of the lack of an ambitious appetite (trust me, we can hog like its nobody's business) but because of the 'head chef'. Apparently, much to our disappointment we were informed that since they were missing a chef that weekend we'd have even limited menu to choose out of.

So after much debating, we settled for CHICKEN PASTA in WHITE SAUCE, CHICKEN CHILLY, GRILLED CHICKEN BURGER with FRIES and coke and CHAI. Service was pretty slow but it might have been the missing chef to blame (?). We managed to amuse ourselves with some great titles that they have stocked on their selves.

First on the table was the PASTA. The white sauce was flavorsome and cheesiness on point but sadly the pasta was overcooked, rendering the dish into mush. Tasty mush, we'll give them that but not something you'd want when you have been craving for some nice pasta.

CHICKEN CHILLY was sort of a turn off too. The chicken pieces were very inconsistent. Some rubbery while some relatively tender. It was like Schrödinger's cat - it could be soft, it could be tough. You wouldn't know unless you put it in your mouth.

Chicken chilly

GRILLED CHICKEN BURGER was the last to arrive and was better than the other dishes. Though the cucumber in the burger seemed to have been cooked too, rendering it soggy yet we did enjoy the crispy fries. Silver lining, people.

The meal didn't cost us much and the quantity was more than enough for two, but the food was a let down considering the rating on Zomato. We will give them benefit of doubt for the absence of the main chef. Maybe we'll make a detour one of these days to check how much the presence of the chef affects the food.
If we do, you will know. Follow us in Instagram and zomato for more updates.

Sunny sundays and red couches

Blueberry Almond Muffin and Choco Almond Muffin

Breakfast is hands down our favorite meal of the day. It can be sweet, it can be savory but it is never boring. To keep things that way we make sure we discover new breakfast places every weekend. And if we come across a place we love we make sure to come back every now and then for our favourites.

So apart from other cafes that we religiously visit in Aundh, Peter Donuts has been steadily climbing our popularity charts. So come Sunday morning we found ourselves lounging around on their oh-so-comfy red couches, reading issues of vogue and poring over breakfast options. The decor is adorable. The red, whites and blacks make for a very classy color scheme. Add to that, the red couches and wooden tables and wooden cabinet displays plus the scrumptious display of donuts and cakes, we could literally stay for a whole day and not complain. The fact that you can avail of their free wifi doesn't hurt either.

The donuts here are undoubtedly great but you should definitely give their breakfast a try. The breakfast is available upto 12 pm. 9am to 12 am is hardly early bird. Once we woke up past 11 am and still made it for breakfast. So all you sleep lovers can hardly complain.

We have tried their WAFFLES, OMELETTE WITH GARLIC BREAD in their EARLY BIRD OFFER. ALso their Ramen had been on our list for a long time so we went for the BBQ CHICKEN RAMEN.Cafe PeterDonuts is also hosting a Momo festival till the 29th of february with a host of momos, momo and noodle soup and momo sandwiches on offer. So we tried out their steamed and fried MOMOs.

The WAFFLEs are perfection. With powdered sugar sprinkled on top and your choice of toppings, its sugary heaven. We opted for whipped cream and maple syrup. Best breakfast for chasing the blues away.

Waffle

BBQ Chicken Ramen was sweet and sour soup loaded with chicken, veggies and noodles. Though we like our ramen soup simple and with clear broth base but we were feeling rather audacious that day and we decided to go forth and get bbq flavor. And it was pretty good too. The chicken had barbeque flavors in them and it quite complimented the tanginess and sweetness of the broth. It came with a side of buttered bread.

The early bird offer for omelette gave you the choices of mushroom, spinach or chicken sausage omelette. Unsurprisingly, we went for the chicken sausage one. Along with toast you also could choose between cappuccino, orange juice or tea. The OMELETTE was okayish, we'd say. It lacked some flavors and though it was stuffed with sausage bits and onions it could do with some more seasoning. The good thing about here is that you can always tell the people at the counter of your preferences and they are courteous enough to relent.

MOMOs were a downer though. We had the veg Momos both steamed and fried. The momos must have been prepared quite a long time back as you can make out from the momo covering. The dumpling skin was sometimes tough and sometimes dry and not moist and soft as it should be. The veggies inside didnt make matters any better. To make it worse the momos were served with a sort of sweet chutney which didnt really sit right with our taste. There was also a salad with mayo on top on the side. The whole thing might have been PeterDonuts' interpretation of momos, but we didn't really want to have anymore momos after that. Which was sad, because we were kind of waiting to try momos so that we could try some of their momo noodle soup.

The momos havent really deterred us though. It is still one of those places we love to spend our mornings in. No wonder, red couches lately remind me of sunday mornings and warm waffles.

Funky Fridays at Funky Kona

Cosmopolitan

Just as you start losing it with all the work pressures and deadlines, in come fridays bringing in much needed respite from the dreary week and ever growing urges to punch someone at work (just kidding of course, we are nothing if not gentle). To top it all, Friday coincided with a friend's visit and we decided that universe clearly wanted us to celebrate this joyous occasion. A quick browse through Zomato, an Uber call and we were on our way to The Funky Kona.

The place was pretty easy to locate as we traveled via ITI Road, Aundh. Fairy lights and a big neon sign on a fairly nondescript building from outside, but its a bundle of surprise from inside, and pleasant one at that. We were welcomed to the gentle strains of gazal being crooned on one end of the outside seating area, while people stood around watching, singing, eating, drinking and being a part of a great Friday pune crowd. Unsurprisingly, the lounge was brimming with people and we were lucky enough to score some seats, albeit at the furthest corner of the bar. So as we sat around lamely joking about how we were having a real 'kona' experience (I swear it was hilarious at the time, y'all) we ordered jugs of COSMOPOLITANS and BEERS and glasses of WINE. Uh, it was Friday after all.

The ambiance really started to liven up as the singer wrapped up his songs and the in-house DJ got into action. It was either that or the wine was going to our heads, either way, the place was getting crowdier by the minute. However the servers were doing an excellent job getting the orders quicker than you'd expect through a sea of people.

For eats we ordered ROASTED CHICKEN CHILLY, CHICKEN NACHOS WITH SALSA, CHICKEN TERIYAKI, BBQ PIZZA. The ROASTED CHICKEN CHILLY was covered in sauces with strips of chicken, capsicum and onions. The chicken tasted great and it went famously with the beer.

CHICKEN NACHOS could have been great but we will settle down for good. The salsa was very less compared to the quantity of nachos and the mayo was lacking too. We polished it off anyway. We are a famished lot.

Chicken nachos

CHICKEN TERIYAKI had 6 slices of spiced chicken. The chicken was tender and spices just right. We wiped off the plates before you could say 'Funky'. We really dug this one though.

Chicken teriyaki

BBQ pizza was thin crust pizza loaded with bbq chicken, cheese and other goodness. It was quite large and great for those bonding moments with your friends when you laugh and share pizzas and gossip. Just kidding, we fought like a wolf pack for second helpings.

Over all, Funky Kona spelled a successful friday for us all. The service was warm and friendly even in the midst of all the pandemonium. We'd suggest you give this place a visit with your own crew for a fun night out. Do drop in early on weekends for choice seats.
